Norden replaced a multi-component, machined assembly in its production machinery with a single HP MJF part with internal vacuum channels, vapor smoothed. The case study describes a sealed, uniform surface, and how the change improved efficiency.
Why it matters
Consolidating an assembly into one printed part removes joints, fasteners and machining steps. Internal vacuum channels need sealed walls, which is where vapor smoothing comes in. For design tips, see Designing internal channels for vapor smoothing.
What would you try?
Which assemblies on your machines would you consolidate into one printed and smoothed part? Grippers, manifolds, vacuum heads? Share your ideas.
